Pseudorandom thoughts on the GrabBag

The GrabBag is the place for things that just don't fit anywhere else. If it's not Family NewsTM or Personal Reflections® or a multimedia-type thing, it gets tossed in the GrabBag.
For example...
Something that's bothered me for quite some time is the rather odd economic system that exists within the walls of that glorious quick-meal eatery, Wendy's. Wendy's, as you may know, has for quite some time had a 99-cent menu. The top two items on the menu at the local Wendy's are the Junior Bacon Cheeseburger and the Junior Cheeseburger Deluxe. As far as I can tell (from asking the employees), there is just one difference between these two items: one of them has bacon. Other than that, the same toppings come on both. So, essentially, as far as a junior cheeseburger is concerned, the bacon is free.
Now, compare this with the non-junior Wendy's burger, the Single, and its bacon-bearing brother, the Big Bacon Classic. What's the difference between these? A couple of strips of bacon, and a slightly different bun. But what's the difference in price? At the local Wendy's, it's nearly a dollar! What's so different between the free bacon that goes on the Junior Bacon Cheeseburger and the dollar-bacon that goes on the Big Bacon Classic? For the price, you might as well just buy a Junior Bacon Cheeseburger and stick it on top of the Big Bacon Classic and have a Really Big Bacon ClassicTM.
I tried asking them for some of the free Junior Bacon Cheeseburger style bacon on my Single, but they wouldn't do it. Try it at your Wendy's.

Wendy's used to have a "Double your Meat" for 89 cents on any burger.
I once ordered a classic triple and asked to double the meat for 89 cents. The cashier just chuckled and asked if that would be all. I informed him I was serious. He was completely taken aback and asked me to wait while he went to get the manager. The manager thought that I couldn't be serious...but I was!
Well, they charged me quite a bit more than the 89 cents advertised, but I did end up getting my burger...couldn't finish it though..that's a LOT of meat!
What is that, like a pound and a half (uncooked)? That's crazy! Funny, though. They should have honored the 89-cent price.
When we were in Portland over the weekend of August 8-11, 2003, we went to Carl's Jr. and got the "Six-Dollar" variety of my favorite fast food burger, the Western Bacon Cheeseburger. It's supposed to be the size of a burger that you'd normally pay $6 for in a restaurant. I had a hard enough time finishing that (though it was certainly tasty).
Andy Williames says that in Hawaii the "six-dollar burger" really is $6.
