Tuesday

After we got back from a great weekend in Chicago, I set off to work again on Tuesday. Marshall was staying home to be available for the guys who were coming to install our new furnace and central air. So I packed up my things and started to head towards the "T". I was trying not to need to bring my bag, so I had my hands full of stuff I was bringing into work. So I set everything into the car and pulled out of the driveway. But when I got to the middle of the road and glanced back, I noticed that my Palm pilot was sitting in the driveway. How odd! What was it doing there? I didn't remember dropping it. So I pulled back in to check on it. And when I got closer, I noticed that my nice leather cover that I had purchased to protect it... well, it had tire tracks on it. So I opened it up, and sure enough - the body was only slightly broken but the screen was in many, many tiny pieces.

I went back into the house and tried to sync it to the computer, hoping against hope that it would work. After all, I hadn't had the chance to sync it since we got back from our trip the day before. But it was no good - my Palm had died a quick but painful death. And it wouldn't even sync up. So now I am in the process of figuring out if I want to replace it and how much of an upgrade I should go for if I do decide that it's worthy of replacing. I'm rather addicted, but I've been getting lazy about it lately because it's been getting slow to turn on and it hadn't been recognizing my handwriting as easily as it once did; the writing surface had gotten pretty scratched up, and I'd put a lot of stuff on it that slowed it down. In addition to using it for the general Palm purposes (phone book, memo pad, etc.), I had also been using it as a checkbook and a Bible. I was also experimenting with Spanish dictionaries, but I couldn't find anything that seemed like it did what I wanted it to do in the space that I had. If anyone knows of a thorough Spanish dictionary (preferably Spanish-Spanish, although Spanish/English-English/Spanish might do if it had a lot of words in it) for the Palm, let me know.

I'll also take any replacement hints you might have. Whatever I get, it needs to be fast and able to put up with a certain amount of abuse. (My first Palm died when I dropped it from my pocket onto a cement floor... it's a good thing that these things are generally backed up on the computer.)
