The iMac is here!

It actually arrived on Monday, but I've been too busy playing with it to post... :-)
On Friday I got the confirmation that it shipped from Shanghai. On Saturday it arrived in Alaska. On Sunday it arrived in Los Angeles. On Monday morning it arrived at the local FedEx office in Rialto, and was (to my surprise) immediately put on a truck for delivery. At around 10:30 AM I noticed that the FedEx tracking site said "Delivery attempt - Incorrect address". This was rather disconcerting; I called FedEx to see what was the matter. Apparently they didn't have our apartment number. I gave them the number, and at around 11:20 AM I got a call from the FedEx guy saying he was outside our front door. No one was there to sign (and as our apartment faces a busy street, I didn't want it just left there), so he asked if he could drop it off at the apartment office. He said he'd call back if there were any problems.
11:27 AM - Delivered.
And what a perfect day for delivery! On Mondays, Lara works from 8AM-1PM and then from 6PM to 9PM, so at 1PM she came and picked me up for lunch. While she made some crescent dogs, I went over to the apartment office.
"Hi, I'm here to pick up a FedEx package that was left here for me."
"What's your name?"
"Marshall Elfstrand, apartment 2405."
"Oh." Look of extreme disappointment. "I was hoping you'd forget."
The lady in the office walked me over to the box and stared at it. "Isn't it gorgeous?" she said. I had to agree.
I brought the box back to the apartment, and Lara and I unpacked it to at least check it out before eating lunch. I didn't have time to do much more than set it on a table before I had to return to work, but that evening I was able to install the RAM and play with the system for a while. On Tuesday I brought it into work so that I could have it run some software installations during the day. "That's the whole computer?" -- I think a couple people at MAF are looking into getting one of their own.
It really does look like a clean, white 20" flat-screen TV, especially with the wireless peripherals. It's got such a simple elegance to it...and combined with all the amazing stuff coming in OS X Tiger, it's just a great time to be in personal computing.

Now I see why you possibly aren't able to afford a trip to Chicago to see your family for Christmas...interesting how your priorities come into the light like that...very very interesting...
